Paneer 65

Paneer is always a regal favorite. It is really surprising that, with paneer as a main ingredient we can make umpteen number of recipes with different combination of masala and veggies. Paneer is definitely the best discovery ever made for the forever-starved vegetarians(including me). :-) Only that, it is pretty heavy on the tummy. So here is one such variety of paneer that I make occasionally! Why occasionally? Because it requires 6 table spoons of oil(gosh!). But it tastes heavenly though!
Paneer 65
Ingredients:
1)Paneer - 1 cup(cubed)
2)Onion - 1 (medium, chopped)
3)Green chilli - 1(slit)
4)Curd - 6 tsps
5)Corn flour - 2 tsps
6)Maida or All purpose flour - 2 tsps
7)Kashmiri red chilli powder(Why Kashmiri? For the divine red color) - 1.5 tsp
8)Ginger paste - 1/2 tsp
9)Garlic - 6 pods(minced)
10)Coriander powder - 1 tsp
11)Salt - to taste
12)Garam Masala - a pinch
13)Oil - 6 tsps
14)Water - a little
15)Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
16)Red Chilli/Tomato sauce - 1/4 tsp(optional, again this is added to get the color)
17)Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp

Preparation:
1)Add maida, corn flour, ginger paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala,  sauce, salt, curd and few tablespoons of water in a bowl and mix well. Make sure the mixture is not too thick.
2)Add the paneer cubes into the mixture & make sure the paneer cubes are coated completely.
3)Heat oil(3 to 4 tsps) in a non-stick flat pan & add the coated paneer cubes one by one, make sure the pan doesn't clog. When the paneer cubes turn slightly golden, flip the paneer cube over(yes, individually).
Note: The other option is to deep fry the coated paneer in good amount of oil. Since it is not a healthy option, I sauteed the cubes in little oil. You may go for deep frying if you are short of time.
4)Once sauteed, rest the paneer cubes over a tissue paper to get rid off the extra oil.
5)Take a pan, add 2 tsps of oil.
6)Add chopped onions, green chillies and the minced garlic - saute till onion turns translucent. Now add a spoonful of curd, a pinch of red chilli powder, salt, 1 tsp of water & mix well, let it cook for 2 minutes.
7)Add the sauteed paneer cubes & cook for 3 minutes.
8)Add 1/2 tsp of lemon juice at the end & mix well.

Paneer 65 is ready!

Tips:
1)You may add 1/2 tsp of 'chaat masala' to the mixture you make with curd. I have never tried this, but I have been told that the mixture tastes great with Chaat Masala in it.
2)You can also add curry leaves, when you fry the onions. It kinda gives a crispy texture to the recipe. (Completely optional)

    1. I do agree, Linsy!! But you know we are in a fast paced world and we end up eating a lot of unhealthy stuffs on the go, So when made at home I try to minimize the usage of oil, that is why I make the above dish occasionally :-)
But totally agree that, good amount of oil definitely makes dish taste heavenly, and no doubt about it. Thanks Linsy!!

  10. Seems to be nice dish for vegetarians and popular one too :)

It reminds me about the dish "Chicken 65" which I encountered for the first time in Indo-Pak restaurants of Saudi Arabia. It was quite popular there :)

    1. Thanks Sanjay! Yes indeed, anything paneer related becomes popular on its own.
Also Chicken 65 is quite famous in the South Indian restaurants, you will get this in India. In fact there are ready-made 65 masala available in supermarket(brand name Aachi, Shakti..etc), can be easily made at home, but Chicken 65 is deep fried, so not so healthy.

And also when it comes to cooking with meat : Saudi, Pakistan - belts out some of the best, any day!!

Google Glass - All that you might want to know!

Google showcased the concept of  " Google Glass " in 2012, but for the past couple of months people( 500 to 600 so far ) started using the Glass and have come up with mixed reviews, with the feedback slightly tilting towards the negative side. Well, it is just a beta version(a test version)! The good thing about Google is that, they have sold Glasses only to app developers, testers and couple more and not to general public. Google is open to feedback and ready to fix problems and make them fool proof, before selling them to general public. I have been following this topic for quite sometime now and have read nearly 100 articles on this. Hence, I'm more or less capable of imparting some knowledge gained theoretically and sharing the same here. Is it a computer, a tablet, a phone or what on earth is ' Google Glass' ? Google Glass is a head-mounted wearable technology(or a computer) that easily rests on your nose and ears very similar to a pair of glasses, only that ...

What NOT to do with Social Media!

“What happens in 'Vegas' stays in 'Vegas'; what happens on 'Twitter' stays on 'Google' forever!” -  Jure Klepic Ever heard this quote before? Although, the quote is sarcastic, isn't it scary? For the past one week, we have been hearing news about NSA( National Security Agency ), PRISM( A Govt. program, where corporates are supposed to provide user's data shared in social media and call records to Govt. ) & several other Govt. agencies gathering personal data out of social media et al. Here comes the question: Why do NSA or Govt. spy on our personal information? What do they achieve, by doing this? A brief overview -> According to me, Govt. and the National Security agencies have always spied on the shared information available online. Only now, we are getting to know that our data is being monitored, thanks to a Whistle Blower named " Edward Snowden ". Why is this freaking people out?  Mainly because of over-sharing of personal ...

A mini story and a lesson for life!

This is one of my favorite short stories. I got this story as a forwarded mail long back. There are only 2 lines in the story but the take away is worth spending couple of minutes. Not everyday we come across intense yet thought provoking stories( whoever that wrote the story, kudos to you boss! ). The Story: A grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one." The grandson asked him, "Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?" The grandfather answered: " The one I feed." My Analogy: What a powerful reply from the Grandfather! Isn't it? This is a very important scenario, mainly because it states no matter what the circumstance is - it is always "we" who decide as to which path to follow, which decision to take, which mountain to climb! Have you ever acted in ways that were u...
