Cappuccino at Home (without using coffee maker)!

Cappuccino at Home (without using coffee maker)

Although I drink tea everyday, I'm a huge fan of coffee. When I make coffee at home that is not just a regular instant coffee but something special. Also once a week I drink a Latte or two from CCD , Costa Coffee & kalmane(Yep local!!). The only outlet I hate the most is 'Barista Lavazza', they do not have good coffee(period).

When I was working abroad, I used to frequent two coffee outlets one being the cliched but majestic 'Starbucks' & the other being the effervescent 'Gloria Jean's'. A quick pick-me-up every now and then from 'Gloria Jean's' used to be a ritual & my favorite drink used to be their White Chocolate Mocha(divine!!). Can you believe that Bangalore does not have a 'Starbucks' outlets yet? I hope someday, Tata Group which has a JV with Starbucks opens its outlet in this ever sprawling Coffee Lover's Paradise called Bangalore!

Now, that is too much of coffee talk! So let us get back to business.
When you do not have a coffee maker, coffee press or an espresso machine at home, you can still get your caffeine fix in the form of Cappuccino made at home. I'm not talking about Bru or Nescafe ready-made Cappuccino sachets! Have you ever tried them?? They suck, to say the least. So here, I'm talking about pure home made cappuccino.

Ingredient:
1)Milk(Thick) - 100 ml(I used Goodlife Cow Milk)
2)Instant coffee powder - 1.25 tsp(I used Bru Instant Coffee Powder)
3)Sugar - 2 tsp
4)Water - two to three droplet

Preparation:
1)Boil the milk in a pan & keep aside.
2)Take a cup(or mug), add coffee powder & sugar. Add 2 to 3 droplets of water.
Note: When adding droplets of water, the mixture in the cup should not look like it is immersed in water. This will ruin the coffee altogether, so add water in limited quantity.
3)Now start stirring the content in the cup quite fast with a spoon(Use a steel spoon for effectiveness). You can see the sugar dissolving in the coffee & water mixture.
4)You have to stir until you get a thick-gooey-coffee-cream kinda mixture. It will take a minimum of 2 to 3 minutes of non-stop stirring to get the texture shown below. The dark brown coffee mixture will turn to light brown candy color. It should smell & taste heavenly.

5)Now add the boiled milk into the coffee mixture by maneuvering a rotating movement just like how a barista pours in the milk & give it a good stir.

6)You can see the froth gushing up just like in Cafes.
7)To add extra punch, you can sprinkle some coffee powder over the top.

Here you go, you saved yourself a 100 bucks by making cappuccino at home!!!

  1. Nice post.. I too like coffee ... but my preference is freshly brewed black or sometimes with milk... both without sugar :)

I used to make it the way your recipes says in younger days.... so it was nice to read it and see the pics.

In Japan I had used sealed pouches having grounded coffee beans, which after tearing open can be put onto the cup like a sieve.... then you pore boiling hot water into it slowly and get a sort of freshly brewed coffee, with a lovely smell n flavor.
I had searched for such pouches here... but did not find them.

    1. Thanks Sanjay! You must be an ardent coffee enthusiast, because the once who can appreciate the real coffee taste will surely go without sugar because they only need the coffee bean taste not any enhancers like sugar or sweetener. Good!
As for the sealed ready-made pouches, India does offer some like Bru & NesCafe but they are not up to the mark!!

  11. I think what you said made a ton of sense. But, what about this?

what if you wrote a catchier title? I am not saying your content
isn't solid., however suppose you added something that makes people desire more? I mean "Cappuccino at Home (without using coffee maker)!" is kinda plain. You should look at Yahoo's home page
and note how they create news titles to get viewers to click.

You might add a video or a related picture or two
to get people excited about everything've written. In my opinion, it would make your posts a little livelier.

Onion and Tomato Chutney

If you are one of those, who is bored of the regular coconut chutney day-in-day-out, then this chutney will be a life saver. It is a good mix of onion, tomato and coconut sauteed with spices and ground to perfection. This goes very well with Idli, Dosa and also as a side to Curd Rice. I have seen people mix this chutney directly with plain rice and have them(something like a pachadi), so it kinda works that way too!! Ingredients : 1)Onion - 1(chopped) 2)Tomato - 2(chopped) 3)Green Chillies - 3(slit) 4)Grated Coconut - 4 tsp 5)Garlic - 3 pods(crushed) 6)Oil - 1 tsp 7)Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp 8)Whole Red Chilli - 1 9)Urad Dal - 1 tsp 10)Asafetida - a pinch 11)Turmeric Powder - a pinch 12)Salt - to taste 13)Coriander leaves - 5 sprigs Preparation : 1)Heat oil in a pan and add asafetida, cumin seeds, whole red chilli and urad dal.
