Fried Egg with Besan(Gram Flour)

My mom used to make a similar recipe with hard boiled eggs, salt and pepper: but I always need that extra spark, so here I mixed and matched some spices and trust me, it came out very well. Other than the time taken to boil the eggs, you hardly need 2 more minutes to whip out this recipe.
Fried Egg, besan, gram flour
Ingredients:
1)Egg - 1 (Hard-boiled and cut into 2 halves)
2)Gram Flour(Besan) - 1 tsp
3)Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
4)Ginger Garlic paste - 1/4 tsp
5)Coriander powder - 1/4 tsp
6)Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
7)Salt - to taste
8)Oil - 1/2 tsp
9)Water - 2 tsp
10)Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp

Preparation:
1)Hard boil the egg in water and cut it into 2 halves.
2)Take a bowl, add gram flour, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt, ginger garlic paste, water and mix well, make sure there are no lumps.
3)Coat the hard boiled eggs with the above mixture.
4)Heat oil in a pan and add the coated egg, flip them over once a side is done. If your pan is not a non-stick one, then the coated 'yolk side' may stick to the pan a little, but that is alright, use your years of experience to take it off the pan ;-)
Note: If you want the eggs to come out clean, then you can fry it in good amount of oil. I'm sure your kids are gonna love them this way.
5)Once you take the egg off the pan, I'm sure some oil is still left in the pan, tilt the pan to gather the oil, add the mustard seeds and let it splutter, now add the "quick tadka"(tempering) over the egg as a garnish.
Am I the most stingy oil user in the world?? I guess, so. HaHa.

Here you go, your sauteed egg is ready to be served.

  2. Wow! Am excited to discover such a recipe. I have a packet of the flour which has been sitting in my fridge for some time. I will try out this weekend and for sure linking back to your blog. I can imagine the savory coating over the eggs and another perfect pairing for rice.

    1. HaHa thanks Chitz.
You know, when I was removing the egg from the pan, i had no intention to add tadka, but when i took a snap, i felt something was missing, I looked at the pan , there was hardly any oil left, still i did not want to pour half a spoon more, so i tilted the pan and gathered the oil around and made a tadka, crazy me :-)

Simple Palak Dal (Spinach Dal Recipe)

Palak Dal is one of the simplest of recipes, at the same time very rich and healthy too. It works very well with both rice and roti. It is a welcome change to the mundane Dal Fry for sure. Not many add tomatoes to this Dal, but I did - because I like the mild sourness it brings to the Dal. Ingredients : 1)Toor Dal - 1/2 cup 2)Spinach - 1 bunch(chopped, I used the stem as well) 3)Green Chilli - 1(slit) 4)Small Onions or shallots - 4(chopped or slit or whole) 5)Tomato - 1(small, chopped) 6)Whole Red chilli - 2 7)Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp 8)Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp 9)Asafetida - 1 pinch 10)Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp 11)Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp(optional) 12)Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp 13)Oil - 1 tsp 14)Ghee - 1/2 tsp Preparation : 1)Soak Toor Dal for 30 minutes in water. 2)In a pressure cooker, add soaked toor dal with enough water, turmeric powder, asafetida, salt, slit green chilli, shallots and tomatoes. Cook for 4 whistles. 3)Heat oil in a frying pan, add cumin, mustard seeds and...

RIP 'Google Reader' and what next?

We all know ' Google Reader ' would shut it's service down on the 1st of July this year. If you are not aware, then try logging into Reader, you get a popup reminder like the one shown in the picture below. There are so many people, who logs into Reader as the first thing in the morning than logging into their own blogs, for them this shut down means letting go of a helping hand. And the worst thing is, there are umpteen number of alternatives available in the market for free, so which one to choose? To be honest with you, there are pluses and minuses in each and every product. But there are 2 Reader alternatives which come close to Google Reader and that is Feedly and Digg ! I'm somehow inclined to try  Feedly , so here I have jotted down some basic information to get started. If you already are using some other alternative, good for you! - You don't have to read further, coz this post is only about Feedly! Ok, So why do you think Google is shutting down the Reade...

What NOT to do with Social Media!

“What happens in 'Vegas' stays in 'Vegas'; what happens on 'Twitter' stays on 'Google' forever!” -  Jure Klepic Ever heard this quote before? Although, the quote is sarcastic, isn't it scary? For the past one week, we have been hearing news about NSA( National Security Agency ), PRISM( A Govt. program, where corporates are supposed to provide user's data shared in social media and call records to Govt. ) & several other Govt. agencies gathering personal data out of social media et al. Here comes the question: Why do NSA or Govt. spy on our personal information? What do they achieve, by doing this? A brief overview -> According to me, Govt. and the National Security agencies have always spied on the shared information available online. Only now, we are getting to know that our data is being monitored, thanks to a Whistle Blower named " Edward Snowden ". Why is this freaking people out?  Mainly because of over-sharing of personal ...
